Perth Scorchers bounced back from their narrow loss to Melbourne Stars in the previous game with a comfortable six-wicket victory over Sydney Sixers at the Lilac Hill in Perth, thanks to an all-round outing from Nicole Bolton in the Women's Big Bash League.
Skipper Ellyse Perry opted to bat on Saturday (December 30), but barring her 45 off 47 balls at the top, it was an average showing for the table toppers. Erin Burns (25) and Dane van Niekerk (29) were the other significant contributors, but the collective failure from the rest of the line-up meant that Sixers had only managed to put up 138 before being bowled out in 19.5 overs.
Scorchers' openers Elyse Villani and Nicole Bolton gave them the ideal start, adding a century stand for the opening wicket and batting Sixers out of the game early, and ensuring most of the job was done before the pair was dismissed in successive overs. Villani scored another half-century (63 off 43 balls) - an innings that had ten boundaries and one six, while Bolton was sent back eight short of a half-century, but Scorchers scaled the target in 18.5 overs.
Brief scores: Sydney Sixers 138 in 19.5 overs (Ellyse Perry 45; Nicole Bolton 2-15, Heather Graham 2-27, Emma King 2-23) lost to Perth Scorchers 139/4 in 18.5 overs (Elyse Villani 63, Nicole Bolton 42) by six wickets.
Stafanie Taylor's four-wicket haul was instrumental in restricting the Hobart Hurricanes to 112 for 8 in 20 overs at the North Tasmania Cricket Association Ground in Launceston. Opener Rachael Haynes then led Sydney Thunder's chase with a 49-ball 64 to ensure a comfortable seven-wicket win, which came in just 16.2 overs.
Opting to bat, Hobart would've been disappointed with their capitulation, having been reduced to 11 for 2 within four overs. Hayley Matthews top-scored with 39 but no other batter passed the 15-run mark.
Apart from Haynes's fifty, Hobart conceded as many as 12 extras with seven wides which didn't help their defence. Hobart languish at the bottom of the table with four losses in as many games, while Thunder have three wins in four games.
Brief scores: Hobart Hurricanes 112/8 in 20 overs (Hayley Matthews 39; Stafanie Taylor 4-15) lost to Sydney Thunder 116/3 in 16.2 overs (Rachael Haynes 64; Brooke Hepburn 2-14) by seven wickets
