Online petition filed with PM Modi against Telangana government's proposed new secretariat
Denizens of Hyderabad on Monday launched an online complaint against the proposed construction of new Telangana Secretariat at Bison polo ground of the city.
The petition was lodged at 'Interact with PM' tab on Modi's website by the activists and citizens of Hyderabad.
Given the low rates of less than 0.5 square metres per person open spaces in Hyderabad city, as against 9 to 12 square metres per person open spaces requirement standards for a decent healthy life, citizens of several Hyderabadis are protesting against the Telangana government proposed new Secretariat at one of the few open and green spaces left in the city.
"We shall follow this up and have the plans, to concretize the open spaces of Gymkhana ground and Bison Grounds, totally scrapped." said activist Lubna Sarwath.
"We are also drawing plans of how much can be reclaimed from the lost open spaces, green spaces, water bodies, in order to further prevent destruction of human and biodiversity of Hyderabad," added Lubna.
Activist pointed out that at the time when there is a case pending in the High court against any construction in the Bison and Gymkhana grounds, it is 'disappointing and unimpressive' that Chief Minister of Telangana declares in the winter session of Assembly that he would go ahead with the constructions.
The activists also questioned the intention of Chief Minister of Telangana, where he cites lack of space and fire safety in current secretariat behind the need of a new and swanky secretariat, and said that Hyderabad has enough architects and creative talent that can resolve the issues that CM is citing.
Telangana CM was attracting criticism over his palatial bungalow 'pragati bhawan' and donations to temples earlier and now he has planned a Vasthu compliant secretariat which is attracting load of criticism from civil society and activist of Hyderabad.
The Bison polo ground and adjacent land belongs to defence ministry and state government is in touch with central govt to get it transferred.
